Rare and Beautiful Things of Life

Friendship without self-interest is one of the rare and beautiful things of life.” — James F. Byrnes

We are so backwards in life.  We befriend people according to if, what, how and when they can do for us.  We are self-indulged, self-centered, self-serving beings.  We do not know how to take the time to care for others because of our own emotionally addictive needs.  We do not even care how to take the time for others because we are so wrapped up into our own self-interest.

In my article on March 25th, ‘What was I born to give?’, I encouraged you to figure out what it is that you were born to give to someone else besides yourself.  Have you done this exercise yet?  By nature, we are selfish beings, but through TRUTH, we transform our selfish natures into sharing natures.

When you befriend someone today, make sure that your new-found “friendship” does not have a hidden agenda of self-interest.  Try becoming a rarity this time; try befriending someone without personal and self-interested agendas.  In doing so, you will have achieved one of the rare and beautiful things of life!
