Words Have Formidable Power

28 December 2008 No Comments

Are we always aware of the words that are coming from our mouths? Are we always in the present moment when we speak? Are we always conscious of what we are saying? I don’t think we are, because then we wouldn’t say half the things that we do.

Words have formidable power. Meaning, what we say can either really harm someone or really bring them light. What we say can either really tear someone apart, or really build them up. We carry so much unbelievable power within our words that if we understood the dynamics of to what extent words could damage or heal, we’d keep ourselves locked in the house.

When we say hurtful, awful and mean things, our words create separation in bonds. And, some of the time people will remember them for a long time. But, guess what, when we speak words of compassion, love and peace, our words can actually prevent wars and cure diseases.

Examples of the power of words are not hard to come by either. For instance, in May of 1961 President John F. Kennedy addressed congress and committed the country to “… achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth. No single space project in this period will be more impressive to mankind, or more important for the long-range exploration of space; and none will be so difficult or expensive to accomplish.” And eight years later, July 20, 1969, man walked on the moon for the first time.

President Kennedy spoke powerful words of positivity and courage. The magnetism of his words built hope in people that sparked the actual manifestation of mankind landing on the moon.

This week, lets hold ourselves accountable for the words that we speak. For, words have formidable power. We all say the wrong things at times (especially me), and that is why an apology sometimes does the trick. But, on the other hand, we can start practicing the right words to say, and an apology is never needed. When we speak words of empowerment, we build great souls- including our own.
