How Did I Fair Today?
“The difference between a moral man and a man of honor is that the latter regrets a discreditable act, even when it has worked and he has not been caught.” –H. L. Mencken
Have you ever taken actions against someone without a second of a thought? And, have you ever thought back on your past and regret those very actions that you took?
Or, perhaps, regret past words that you may have blurted out- without first thinking about? Or, regret things you’ve done that offended people in the worst way- without first knowing that those things would be so offensive?
Oh, I have. And, I bet most of us have. The best thing about feeling regrets like this it that- in the future- we are more aware of what we say, and what we do, and how we feel.
Every action is first a word. And, every word is first a feeling. And, every feeling is first a thought. Your mind goes through a step-by-step process before it even reaches the stage of forming into matter. Another good thing about feeling these regrets is that we can now catch ourselves right in the very beginning- at the onset of our thoughts.
How do we take more precautions in our day-to-day lives when it comes to what we say and how we think, feel and treat others?
I always find it best to develop a system with myself. Every night- before bed- I write a journal entry titled, “How did I fair today?” I make sure to detail my whole day so that I can pinpoint every single thing I did within my day (wrong or right) that I feel needs improvement or more of.
This week, develop a system with yourself that accounts all of your deeds. A system that you can follow by keeping track of your daily positive and negative dealings. Becoming aware of your behavior (and logging it) helps tremendously in developing your sense of self and how you treat the world. This week- everyday this week- ask yourself “how did I fair today?” When you invest your energy into finding proactive ways to express yourself great changes will be made.
Have a wonderful week!
