4 Ys
I’ve talked a lot lately about desires. In all of my articles I strongly ask, “What Do You Want?”, and encourage you to name your desires, write them down, talk about them with your friends, become excited about them.
Why do I talk so much about desires? Why is having desires so important? What exactly is a desire?
[A desire is a longing or craving, as for something that brings satisfaction or enjoyment.] In order to receive, achieve, obtain, you must first have a desire. Then, there is an agreement (with yourself) to the opportunities, as well as the setbacks and obstacles that may come along with the desire. Next, you work towards it- taking flight and understanding that there is a positive and negative (yin and yang) to every path of acquiring that desire.

There are 4 steps to consummate your desires. Let me explain the 4 Y’s:
yen- a sharp desire or craving; yearning
yes- to express agreement, consent or approval
yin- positive motivation and certainty
yang- negative influences along the way
It all starts with yen, a great desire. In obtaining anything you have to desire it first. Not just a desire, but a strong (sharp) one. Without strongly desiring something, it is impossible to reach it. You must have desires in order to receive anything. Why is having a strong desire so important? Without desires you cannot create; nothing would exist. Having a desire is fundamental so that you are able to visualize. Once you visualize, then you are able to invest energy into it; therefore creating exactly what you want, exactly the way you want it. Say, for instance, you want a new car; a Mercedes. You first came up with the idea that it’s time for you to get a new car. That idea then turned into a desire. But, as time passed, you began to crave it like no other. That is called a strong (sharp) desire (yen). The desire then leads you to an agreement.
The agreement, the yes. When you have a sharp desire, and are awaiting to receive it, a “yes” must come from you; You must be in full agreement with that desire. When you express agreement to your desire you are giving yourself permission to drive that new Mercedes. In other words, you are giving yourself the consent to go forward with that desire, and to work hard at obtaining it. The reason why making an agreement with yourself is so important is that it is essential to tell yourself that it is okay to have something. A lot of people wish for things but do not allow themselves the freedom of it. That’s self-destructive behavior. Unless you “lock” yourself into an agreement for a desire, then you will always get in your own way. Ok, so now you are at the stage of yes, already having the desire (Mercedes), and now you have to work on the guts to stake everything on obtaining it. Which leads you to the yin.
The yin, which is the positive motivational force behind your agreement. When you finally say yes to your desire, you say yes to everything that accompanies it. The yin is very important because it is the positive driving force behind your decision to go forward. It is what assisted you in making your decision, and assures you the confidence in reaching for your desire. It is the certainty behind the yes. The yin is what gives you the energy you need to completely follow through with your desire, to the fullest. It is the force that dangles the keys to your new Mercedes in front of your nose like a carrots. It is the pusher. Obtaining your desire is all about having balance. The yin is one half of a two-part balance system.
Last is the yang, the negative influences along the way; is what helps you to actually materialize your desire. But, why is the yang so pertinent? Why is having negative influence so essential? In order to accomplish anything, there has to be a balance. The yang is the second half of a two-part system, and is there to offer obstacles and possible setbacks to help you build that ultimate desire (Mercedes). You see, without the yang, the desire cannot possibly materialize. The yang is the final step in obtaining your desires, which is the influence behind you actually “holding it in your hands”, so to speak. You’ve got the keys in your hand, and now it’s time to take that new Mercedes for a spin!
This week, recognize that there is a system (a process) that you must go through in order to be successful. This system consists of a process of 4 steps, called the 4 Y’s. Test this theory out this week and see how it best works for you.

NOTE: (yin and yang- two principles, one negative and feminine, and one positive and masculine, whose interaction influences the destinies of creatures and things. Two forces in the universe, according to a Chinese theory: yin is the passive, negative force, and yang the active, positive force. According to this theory, wise people will detect these forces in the seasons, in their food, and so on, and will regulate their lives accordingly.)
