Uniquely Beautiful

3 September 2008 No Comments

My friend and I were out shopping at our favorite department store yesterday.  And while waiting in line for an empty fitting room I caught her staring at another girl, rolling her eyes over what she was wearing. And then she quickly stepped over to sneak a peek at the tags hanging from the clothing she had draped over her arm, noticing that they all read “XXXS”.

She then looked down at her thighs and sighed, not wanting to go into the fitting room next to hers to try on the items that she’d picked.

I lovingly grabbed my friend, walked her from the store and had a long talk with her about how beautiful she is.

There is a lesson in this:

There are 6 billion people on this planet with 6 billion different types of DNA constructs. That means that we are each born with unique traits, characteristics, abilities, talents, gifts, and especially our own unique beauty.

Always remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the first beholder of you should be you.

Don’t beat yourself up today over a tiny number on a tag sewn into an inseam of a pair of jeans. Instead, take a long look in the mirror at the person staring back at you. Look yourself in the eye and truly behold your very essence. Try hard to appreciate who you are and the individual beauty that you posses. Appreciate the differences about you that make you special. Appreciate the amazing gifts that have been given to you.

And, Most importantly… Appreciate you!

We are all unique in our own individuality. We are all uniquely beautiful.

This week, appreciate that!
