Stop Fighting With Me!

21 September 2008 No Comments

“People with clenched fists can not shake hands.”–Indira Gandhi

Who have you had a few unpleasant words with lately? Who is the person that you absolutely cannot stand and just want to bash? Who is it that you see coming and try to avoid at all costs? Who is it that is fully annoying you?

Fighting is only an illusion. See that person over there? You are not really fighting with her. In reality, there is really no conflict.

You see, it is the ego that creates separation and feeds us the illusion that there is animosity in a space where none really exists.

Lessons come to us packaged as conflict. Conflict is only an illusion. In reality, what appears to be conflict is only a lesson that is set in place for us to learn and to overcome. The illusion is the feeling that there is a fight.

Bring the peace today by recognizing your lesson. Watch the situation closely to see what the other person is mirroring for you. Let go of the need to be right and show a little humility. Learn your lesson and therefore charge off that debt.

Today, set aside some time to write a letter or make a phone call to that person that you’ve had differences with and sincerely ask them to make amends with you. Sincerely thank them for helping you to grow, and for helping you to see things within yourself that you should work on. And, sincerely thank them for helping you to become a better person.

Who is it today that you need to thank for helping you to become a better person?
